Heat pumps

Proven technology, tailored to your property

“Even if you have limited outdoor space, there are highly adaptable solutions available.”

Despite common misconceptions, heat pumps are not experimental or new. The core technology is already in your home, operating exactly like the system inside your everyday fridge or freezer.

Furthermore, air-source heat pumps have been successfully heating homes in Scandinavia and Central Europe for decades.

While we often complain about the rain in the UK, our climate is actually incredibly mild compared to the extreme winters of the Alps, making our environment perfectly suited for this technology.

How they work
(and why it matters)

The fundamental difference between a boiler and a heat pump is how they source energy.

A traditional boiler generates new heat by burning fossil fuels at extreme temperatures, meaning it doesn’t matter how hot you run the system.

A heat pump, however, acts as a heat mover rather than a heat maker. It “borrows” existing ambient heat from the outside air and compresses that energy to a higher, usable temperature to warm your property.

Because of this, the temperature of the water running through your radiators directly affects the efficiency of the machine.

Everything we do at Halifax Renewables – from our painstaking design process to calculating precise flow rates – is engineered to run your system at the lowest, most efficient temperature possible.

Busting the myth

There is a widespread assumption that if you live in an older property or haven’t fully insulated your home, you cannot have a heat pump. This is simply untrue.

Here in the Calderdale valley, we have successfully installed heat pumps in a wide variety of buildings, from 300-year-old strip-outs to beautifully decorated heritage homes where extensive fabric improvements were impossible.

While insulating walls and removing drafts is always good advice, a heat pump can still successfully heat older homes as long as the system is accurately calculated and designed using good data.

Even if you have limited outdoor space, such as a small yard or narrow alley, there are highly adaptable solutions available. We frequently utilise wall-mounted units, or even specify internal heat pumps that only require discrete outdoor venting ducts.

Take advantage.
Save thousands.

Until the end of 2027, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) supports the decarbonisation of homes, as well as small and medium non-domestic buildings, in England and Wales, with upfront grants of at least £7,500 available.

Frequently asked questions...

A heat pump is a significant upfront investment, but whilst it requires upfront capital, the long-term energy savings can be quite substantial. Contact us for a free quote.

Yes, and we highly recommend it. Because a heat pump is a significant investment, we regularly introduce prospective clients to our existing local customers.
Heat pumps are highly reliable. The core technology is the same robust system used in household fridges and freezers, which run continuously for years.
No. While heat pumps pair beautifully with underfloor heating because both operate highly efficiently at lower temperatures, it is not a requirement.
No, it is a common myth that extensive fabric improvements are strictly required. A properly designed heat pump can successfully heat older, uninsulated properties.
